Mary Ann Ball Bickerdyke, Mother Bickerdyke - Botanic Physician, Civil War Nurse, Attorney, and Mother. Mother Bickerdyke, Chief of Nursing under General Ulysses S. Grant, built 300 hospitals and aided the wounded on 19 battlefields including the Battle of Shiloh and Sherman's March to the Sea. She rode at the head of the Major General William T. Sherman's Fifteenth Army Corps in the Grand Review.
